Ghana special Event 'Partnership and Moving forward'

PartnershipI have to share something great with you. At this moment the executive director from CPYWD Ghana is in Europe (September 4th till 27th) to promote the work of CPYWD, to strengthen our partnerships, to build our capacity, to promote volunteersm and to exchange new ideas and get inspired.

To honour his visit we will organize a Ghana Special Event on September 25th in Haarlem meant for everyone involved and interested in development cooperation projects in Ghana.

This is your opportunity to hear more about our projects from first hand and experience it by yourself! After some view presentations, we will create an information market where everyone can seek for the information he or she is interested in and at the same time deliver input and brainstorm about (any kind of) ideas. Besides that there will be plenty of time to enjoy the Ghanaian food, music and way of socializing.

Partnership is the key to make a project sustainable and even though it is not always easy we are convinced that it always gives added values once people are open to give and to gain at the same time and strive for the same aim. So why should you come?
- if you are interested in volunteerwork in Africa (in particular Ghana)
- if you have your own project in Africa/Ghana, especially related to education-After School Activities, Beekeeping/agricultre/environment & volunteering.
- if you are a supporter of our project or if you are interested to support, but want to know and see more before
- if you have a general interest in international development cooperation and if you want to get inspired, or even if you are very critical towards this, since this can create interesting discussions.

So feel welcome to come and forward this message to anyone interested!

Community Partnership joined the Young Professional event in Amsterdam!

On the 20th of May Maartje Bos joined the Young Professionals Event with Ellen Michaelis from Beesupport. The 1% club offered us this opportunity and Geertje de Man co-facilitated our brainstorm sessions. We are grateful for this opportunity and the output was great. We gained some new ideas and got a lot of inspiration. Our main focus was to get marketing ideas on how to extend our honey products market in Ghana and how to create new connections in the Netherlands. See also our project task on the 1%club

We will organize a follow up session in June so we can really bring all the ideas into practice. And last but not least, the painter of the event made a beautiful drawing:

Together we make a different as Young Professionals! Thanks you YPMTD (Young Professionals Make the difference) for this great iniative! It has given us a lot of inspiration!

1% target reached!

With help of the 1%club 20 beneficiaries have been supported to start with their beekeeping business. In the end of May/beginning of June (when the season is there) 150 women and young peope will receive a beehive + protecting cloths. In total 106 people have supported our project and we are very proud of it! It is great that this new type of network helps us to connect with people.

We are happy and grateful that the 1%club helped with achieving this aim! Thank you

In the last two years Youth Service Initiative (YSI) has build playgrounds near 4 schools together with the volunteers from the local community. The cooperation with these schools has grown stronger and especially for the younger children going to school has become more attractive. There is a significant growth in the number of children going to school now. This is because of the playgrounds, but also the after school program.

The goal for the project in 2010 is to make a start with the realisation of a children’s and youth centre. (Youth Discovery Centre). This will be a three year program with different fases. The primary goal for the youth centre is to offer a place for children and youth where they can play safe and free and are able to develop themselves.

Also teaching materials are brought to this central point and training sessions and conferences will be organised to raise the level of education in this area. The centre will be very important for CPYWD to renew the methods of learning and education in a more democratic way. Young people get access to more organised activities for their spare time, which is also helpful in reaching their future goals. In the centre there will workshops organised so things they learn in theory can be brought into practice.  Science for instance they learn from books, the centre has the possibilities to give practical lessons as well.

In 2010 16 YSI members will go to Ghana and help to build the first part of the centre. They will also organise activities for the children.  But funds are still needed to be able to start the construction work. Via the 1%club you can leave any small donation and at the same time you are promoting our project (see news item below about the 1%club). Download the full proposal to see on which project we will be working on.

Thank you very much, YSI and the children of the communities will be very grateful. After the trip we will show you the results! Download also the full proposal to see what we will be working on.

Discovery Centre Project online!

On the 27th of March the YSI teams will go to Ghana for 2 weeks with the ambition to work on the construction of the Discovery Centre (see also projects). For the rest YSI will also join workshops and seminars with youngsters, students and other people from the communities, organize sport activities together, participate in the afterschool programs and have a lot of fun! All of this will organized and facilitated by CPYWD.

Are you getting interested? The Discovery Centre project is also online at the one%club, see http://www.1procentclub.nl/projects/partnershipdiscoverycenter. If you become a member of the 1%club, you can give a personal donation to our project. At this moment it is not sure yet if we will have enough funds to start with the Discovery Centre project, so your donation will have a big impact!

Thank you very much!
